Thoughts from the Pastor

“There has never been a better time to praise Jesus!”

The Psalmist writes in Psalm 150, verse 6,

Let everything that has breath praise the LORD”.

Easter weekend and every other day is a great day to praise Jesus. He is Alive!

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid,
for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.
He is not here; He has risen,
just as He said.
Come and see the place where He lay.
                     Matthew 28:5 & 6 (ESV)

This is the weekend we all come together to praise our living Savior. Please don’t miss the celebration this weekend as we celebrate at both locations of MAGLife Church.

“The Journey To Jerusalem!”

In the days leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus, as part of my Easter devotions, I was reading the Gospel of Mark, Chapter 10. I learned some astounding things about the final days of Jesus before the triumphful entry into Jerusalem and ultimately to His death.

Mark, Chapter 10, starts out by referring to Jesus teaching the disciples, “as was His custom.” Here’s what it actually says:

And He left there and went to the region of Judea
and beyond the Jordan,
and crowds gathered to Him again.
And again, as was His custom, He taught them.
                                             Mark 10:1 (ESV)

As was His custom, Jesus taught them. It was true then and it is true today. This particular chapter speaks of Jesus teaching, leading, and revealing to His disciples, Himself as the Son of man. The Bible tells us that the disciples were both amazed and afraid during the journey. But Jesus being both the Son of man, and the Son of God explained to them that even though death was eminent, after three days, He would rise again. (Mark 10:32-34)

This explanation is the reassurance of hope as we enter this Easter Season. Without death, there can be no resurrection, but because of Jesus, death is overcome! This is the Easter Story defined!

I hope you know the full story of Jesus! He is alive and well! And ready to travel with you in your own personal journey to Jerusalem.

“Get Up, Take Up, and Walk!”

This week our story line comes from the Gospel of John, Chapter 5, verses 1-9. I hope you will take time to read the whole passage describing Jesus healing the paralyzed man. The man had struggled for 38 years until he met Jesus!

Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.”
                                                                         John 5:8 (ESV)

Jesus healed him both spiritually and physically. Here are three steps to spiritual healing and victory.

1) Get Up
Jesus did not say “get down.” Jesus said “Get Up!” The devil will always try to press you down and discourage you but Jesus always encourages those He loves. His first question to the paralyzed man was “Do you want to be healed?” and then His admonition to him was to “Get Up!”

2) Take Up
I think of this step as the faith and works step in receiving spiritual healing. If getting up represents faith then “taking up” represents works.Doing  what you can, responding to the Word of the Lord in faith. For more on faith and works you can read James 2:14-26. Scripture says “Faith apart from works is dead.”

3) And Walk – The best part yet! “And Walk” represents to me the supernatural Power of God, given to man, creating our ability to walk as God intended!

“And Walk”     Power to walk, Power to talk, and Power to live!

The Greek word for walk as used in this passage is “peripates.” It means:

a) to tread all around
b) to walk at large
c) as proof of ability

How about it? Let’s act on our faith and proclaim “Paralyzed NO MORE!” Obeying the commands of Jesus . . . .

Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.”

“God Is Faithful! God Is True!”

Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse!
The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True,
and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire,
and on His head are many diadems, and
He has a name written that no one knows but Himself.
He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which He is called is
The Word of God.
And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure,
were following Him on white horses.
From His mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron.
He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.
On His robe and on His thigh He has a name written,
King of kings and Lord of lords.
                                                                                         Revelation 19:11-16 (ESV)

In reading from the Book of Revelation this past week, I came across a phrase worth noting. In Revelation 19:11, Jesus refers to Himself as “Faithful and True”. Isn’t it great to know we serve a God that we never have to doubt. We can always trust Him to be “Faithful and True!”

Over the next few days, take some time each day to reflect on the values of God. Every day, and all day, we can always trust Him to be “Faithful and True!”

We hope to see you this weekend at MAGLife Church!
