Thoughts from the Pastor

The Love Of God
“Even There!”

O LORD, you have searched me and known me!
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O LORD, you know it altogether.
You hem me in, behind and before,
and lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high; I cannot attain it.
Where shall I go from your Spirit?
Or where shall I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
If I take the wings of the morning
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
even there your hand shall lead me,
and your right hand shall hold me.
                                                  Psalm 139:1-10 (ESV)

The Bible is filled with extraordinary examples of God’s love. Verse 10 of this passage is one of my favorites.

even there your hand shall lead me,
and your right hand shall hold me.

Have you ever had one of those “even there” experiences? A time when you felt like you had exhausted all of your resources and faith was the only thing you had to hold on to. Even there, you were met by the hand of God, holding you and guiding you. As difficult as some circumstances can be, there is nothing more reassuring then the hand of God on your life. Earlier in the passage listed, Psalm 139:5 reinforces our thought.

You hem me in, behind and before,
and lay your hand upon me.

The next verse, Psalm 139:6, speaks to how I feel today, “such knowledge is too wonderful for me.” God has an amazing way of expressing His love in our “even there” moments. Rest in the promise of God today because I promise you that He is there with you,

“Thanks Mom!”

How many trees in the forest would you have to cut down, to make enough paper, to write down all of the things that we need to thank our moms for? They tell me that paper is made out of trees, and I’m thinking it would take a lot of trees to say adequately “Thanks Mom!”

This Sunday is Mother’s Day and we will celebrate God’s glorious gift to this world that we know as Mom. There is a Scripture in 1st John, Chapter 3 that says:

See what kind of love the Father has given to us,
that we should be called children of God;
and so we are.
                                          1st John 3:1 (ESV)

It is God who created the very idea of moms. Mom’s love, care for, teach, and protect. The list of things that moms do is never ending and all of these qualities remind us of God. Every mom is important and every mom is special!

This Sunday we invite you to join us as we celebrate God’s very special gift that we know as Mom!

Our special Mother’s Day breakfast begins at 9:00am. Then join us at 10:00am for our Mother’s Day Celebration service with a special message from Karen Urich.

“Are You Doing It Yet?”

Here’s a scripture I quote every morning . . . .

This is the day that the LORD has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.
                             Psalm 118:24 (ESV)

Did you read the scripture? Are you doing that yet? OK, I know life can be challenging, but this is what the scripture says. . . .

God made today, and it’s always a choice to rejoice!
                                                      (RRU paraphrase)

According to scripture, each of us, has a choice each day. Our model from scripture is to choose to rejoice!

Think about it, if God made the day, can’t we know that He also made a way for us to rejoice in His ultimate and divine plan? Now that we’ve thought about it, let’s all do it!
Let’s all rejoice and be glad in this day, because God made it!

WOW! I feel better all ready don’t you? Let’s get on with it, our time to rejoice is here!

Come rejoice this weekend with us at MAGLife Church. It’s going to be great!

“Living In The Gift Of Grace”

When you think about the two very different ends of the spectrum found in Romans 6:23, it really is quite amazing.

For the wages of sin is death,
but the gift of God is eternal life
in Christ Jesus our Lord.
                  Romans 6:23 (ESV)

On one end of the spectrum is death while the other end of the spectrum is life. Eternal life. And according to this scripture “it is a gift!” Both of these descriptions are very real. I think anyone would prefer life over death and that is what the gift of God is. Grace in its purest form. As the renowned hymn portrays “Grace That Is Greater Than All of My Sin.”

This Sunday’s sermon begins with steps towards “Living In The Gift Of Grace.”

We hope to see you this week at MAGLife Church!
